What Sets Gimme-A-Break Apart

The Value Of Personal Growth

Your child is not just a deposit or a number here at Gimme-A-Break. The children under our care are an addition to our family, where we take the utmost responsibility for their daily growth. Our staff and teachers get to know your child’s unique learning behaviors and personality, while working one-on-one with them so that they get the individual attention that they need and deserve.

A Focus On Learning Through Play

Our staff is well-rounded in educating the children here at Gimme-A-Break. We want your child to thrive so we create a sense of belonging. During our school year curriculum, we work to develop their individual interests and skills to support their academic success so they can become well-rounded learners for life.

An Emphasis On Fun & Creativity

Creativity is essential in a child’s learning process. We believe that they do best when they are constantly inspired and having fun. Our facility is built with THEM in mind. How does their mind work? What gives them motivation and drive? We guide them with empathy and patience, and navigate them through the learning process by allowing them to have fun! Afterall, that IS what kids do best.

Our Curriculum

During the school year, we offer a basic curriculum. This curriculum covers letters, numbers, shapes and colors and basic sign language. We also teach social skills, life skills and  gross & fine motor skills. Amongst all those, we also incorporate an art project and a sensory activity. We know how important play is to a child’s development, so we do incorporate “learning through play”.

Our Unique Curriculum Oversight

2-Year-Old Curriculum

In this classroom, we will support your 2-year-old as they discover their world. We utilize a creative curriculum because at this age your child is learning at a rapid rate. As they grow and develop, the teacher adapts the curriculum, as well as the environment to meet both your child's needs as well as their interests. There is a theme created weekly with activities individualized to the specific needs of each child in the classroom. Each activity on the lesson plan is purposeful and intentionally planned based on the teacher's observations of each child in the classroom. In the twos' room, your child will be surrounded by creative arts, fine motor activities, music, physical movement, literacy and the basic skills that will enhance their years to come here at Encore.

3-Year-Old Curriculum

3-year-olds are full of wonder and spend a lot of time watching, observing and imitating. As children grow, their world will begin to open up. They will become more independent and begin to focus on adults and children outside of the family. During this stage, the children will have the opportunity to learn how to ride a tricycle, use safety scissors, help to dress or undress themselves, play with other children, recall parts of a story, sing a song and so much more. Our day has all of this mixed into our teacher-lead lesson plans so that we can prepare them for kindergarten.

Our 4-year-old room was created as a safe space for every child that walks through the door. Our goal is to help your child reach their milestones while preparing them for their next journey. Whether that be advancing to the 5-year-old room or heading off to kindergarten, we want your child to leave our room excited and ready for that next step! With a variety of independent learning choices, group activities and weekly themed lessons, we have created a curriculum that fits the needs of every child. A few of the things that we work on in our room are alphabet skills such as letter and sound recognition, being able to write the letters individually as well as writing different words and recognizing sight words. We also work on basic math skills such as number recognition, counting, patterns and how to add numbers together. We as teachers recognize that though these skills are important, children at this age are still learning personal skills that they will need as they grow. With this in mind, we have included social-emotional skills into our curriculum as well as manners, how to be kind and compassionate toward others and daily affirmations to remind everyone how truly incredible they are!

4-Year-Old Curriculum

5-Year-Old Curriculum

A warm and inviting classroom to get your child ready for kindergarten! The 5-year-old classroom engages your child with books, games, toys, and, most importantly, hands-on activities! All lessons are created with developmentally appropriate, engaging and challenging activities to get your child ready for kindergarten. The daily schedule incorporates literacy, math, science and social skills. These kindergarten concepts are enriched with our thematic learning experiences. Materials within the classroom change with our themed learning. Learning and play are naturally integrated in the classroom. We infuse movement throughout the day to work on large motor skills as well! Every day gives an opportunity to positively improve social/emotional, listening and gross motor skills, which are the building blocks for your child's character development. Our day has a mix of student-led, play-based and teacher-directed lessons and activities to prepare them for a kindergarten schedule.
